How we get prices

Every price on this site comes from a store's own public catalogue, checked once a day. Here is how that works, and what we leave out.

We check each store once a day

Our price checker reads each store's public product catalogue: the same listings anyone can see on the store's website. It records the price and whether the product is in stock, and the time it checked. That time is shown next to every price on the site, for example "checked 3h ago".

Matched to the exact product

Each price is matched to one exact product: the same model, size and version. A 65 litre BrewZilla is never compared with a 35 litre one, and a kit with extras is not compared with the bare unit. When we can't be sure a store's listing is the same product, we leave that store out. A missing price is better than a wrong one.

If a store's price moves by more than 50% since our last check, we hold it back until we see the same price again on a later day. That stops a typo or a broken listing from showing up as a bargain.

Prices older than 48 hours are stale

If we haven't confirmed a price in 48 hours, it is marked stale. A stale price is greyed out with the date we last saw it, is never shown as the current or cheapest price, and never appears in a "from $X" headline. Out-of-stock prices are listed separately and are never counted as the cheapest either.

Prices exclude shipping

The prices we show are the store's listed price, before delivery. Shipping depends on your postcode, the size of the order and each store's own rates, so check the final cost at the store's checkout. A store's price can also change between our check and your visit.

Featured listings never change price order

Price tables are sorted by price alone: the cheapest current, in-stock price first, then stale prices, then out-of-stock. Shops can pay for a Featured listing in the shop directory, where it is always labelled Featured. That never moves a store up a price comparison or changes which stores appear.

Stores we check

We currently check 10 Australian online stores:

  • Australian Home Brewing (australianhomebrewing.com.au)
  • Border Brewing Supplies (borderbrewing.com.au)
  • Brew HQ (brewhq.com.au)
  • Brewmart (brewmart.com.au)
  • Coopers DIY (diybeer.com)
  • Good Dog Homebrew (gooddoghomebrew.com.au)
  • iBrew (ibrew.com.au)
  • Keg King (kegking.com.au)
  • KegLand (kegland.com.au)
  • The Brew Shed (thebrewshed.com.au)

Not every store sells every product, so each comparison lists only the stores where we found that exact product.

Our price checker

Our checker identifies itself to stores with this user agent:

KangarooHomeBrewBot/1.0 (+https://kangaroohomebrew.com.au/how-we-get-prices)

It reads public catalogue pages only, pauses between requests, and visits each store about once a day. If you run one of these stores and want us to check less often or stop, contact us.

Some links earn a commission

Some "Go to store" links may earn us a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change the price order or which stores we show. Read our affiliate disclosure for the details.
